Hillsborough villa renovation
Transforming a traditional Auckland villa: a stunning renovation reveal!
Initially a maze of small, dark, segregated rooms, the owners of this dated Hillsborough villa wanted to breathe new life into their home while retaining its charming character.
With a mandate to modernise and open up, the layout was reconfigured to seamlessly integrate a modern kitchen, scullery, and laundry, alongside four refreshed bathrooms.

The new kitchen is all about convenience and style
With a U-shaped benchtop providing generous workspace, drawers for easy access, and elegant brushed gold handles and tapware, this renovated kitchen strikes the perfect balance between functionality and sophistication.
The layout encourages effortless flow between prep, cooking and entertaining zones, making it ideal for busy family life or hosting guests.
Leck Electrical worked their magic on the lighting design and helped us transform the ambiance of the home. From LED strips to tread lights, and even an integrated sound system, they’ve created bright, inviting spaces for the homeowners to enjoy.

Every chef loves a scullery
The scullery, or butlers pantry, continues the design story featuring stunning tiled walls and brushed gold mesh drawer fronts. These thoughtful details aren’t just eye-catching; the mesh drawers offer ventilation for fresh produce, making them ideal for vegetable storage. Together, the kitchen and scullery deliver a refined, cohesive space where style meets everyday practicality.
This spacious home boasts four bathrooms, each with its own unique design flair
While each bathroom in the home has its own personality, consistency is achieved through shared design elements including matching vanities, tapware, mirrors and lighting. This cohesive approach ties the spaces together while still allowing room for individuality.
The main bathroom features breathtaking large-format blue marble tiles that make a bold, luxurious statement. Paired with elegant brushed gold tapware and a crisp white basin and cabinet, the space feels both serene and sophisticated.
In the guest bathroom, the same design language continues, but with a softer twist. Here, the tiles are a refined white marble with subtle grey and gold veining, offering a light, timeless look that complements the matching vanity and tapware.

Stylish bathrooms designed for everyday luxury
Meanwhile, the boys' bathroom takes a more dramatic direction. They opted for bold dark finishes, including sleek black tiles and matching basins, creating a striking contrast against the home’s original heritage doors and windows. The result is a mix of contemporary edge and classic charm, proving that well-designed spaces can be both functional and expressive.

The new laundry is just as stunning as the rest of the home
No need for your laundry to be drab and depressing! This hard-working space has been given a serious style update by using the same gorgeous tile featured in the scullery, creating a sense of cohesion and flow throughout the home. Clever cabinetry keeps clutter out of sight, while durable surfaces make everyday tasks feel just a little more luxe. It's proof that even the most practical rooms in your house can be both beautiful and functional.

It was important to the homeowners to retain and restore some key heritage features
Every detail, from the custom-made lead lights to the meticulously crafted timberwork, mirrors the home's original period aesthetic. These beautiful doors were made by Next Level Joinery, with GlassArts Design making the stunning stained glass. The design was based on original stained glass featured in other parts of the house.
